Is The Raining Fish Mystery in Texarkana Solved? Here’s What Researchers Say
Back in late December 2021, people around Texarkana noticed fish falling from the sky. Yes, that's right it was raining fish in both the Arkansas and Texas sides of town.
There is now a new theory of how and why this happened. The only question would be, Do you believe it?
What We Originally Thought
Originally the explanation was that some sort of tornadic waterspout could have swept them up, carried them up in the atmosphere a few miles then at a certain point they just dropped and landed in about a 4-mile area in Texarkana.
Some of the fish collected were sent to the University of Texas in Austin to be studied. They noticed that some of the fish were partially digested.
Several Possibilities Were Looked At
The research included looking at many possibilities including a waterspout but further investigation showed no such waterspout had taken place on area lakes. They looked at it as being storm-related, dropped from a plane and the fish being carried by birds in their beaks, talons, or stomachs.
But now here is the official explanation and conclusion to the research.
And the Official Answer to The Mystery is?
According to a published report in the July 2022 issue of Fortean Times, researchers, Sharon A. Hill and Paul Cropper who both study anomalous phenomena stated;
We are fairly confident we determined the factors that led to fish falling across this area of Texas: A flock of cormorants (and possibly other birds) disgorged their recently consumed meals of small shad while in the air or perhaps during takeoff.
So in short, the bird had been eating a feast and when they were flying over Texarkana the storm made them queazy and they threw up? Well, that's gross and that's a lot of birds with queazy stomachs. Why am I liking the Waterspout idea more?
You can see the original report that we published on our websites back in December here.
The video below is a surveillance video at Discount Wheel and Tire with fish falling. go to the 5:51 minute mark and you'll see fish starting to drop from the sky.
A bird was knocked out of the sky too in the video below.
