Greetings shooting sports fans! I am excited about this 2016 shooting sports season and with the crazy warmish weather we've been having lately, it would appear Mother Nature is ready for us to begin sending lead down range, too.

Putting holes in paper, making the steel ring and the smell of burned gunpowder get's this Texas boy grinning from ear to ear. Even though our rifle guys shoot their matches year round, the rest of us shut down for the winter and rev it back up in March each year.

Guess what, it's almost March.

Texarkana Gun Club kicks it off on the first Saturday with our USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) matches. These are run and gun pistol matches for experienced shooters. I posted a video below that shows a couple of stages from our last match of the year in October of 2015. It's not my best performance but certainly not my worst. I had a little trouble with the plate rack and a misfire, but overall, not bad.

On the second Saturday of each month, we have our Steel Challenge match. In this type of competition, the shooter stands in one place and shoots at steel targets using the time for each string of fire as their final score for that stage. Great for newer pistol shooters using center fire pistols or .22 caliber pistols or rifles.

Third Saturday goes for the rifle shooters. Remember, they shoot all year long. It's a combination of extreme precision benchrest shooting and less expensive .22s as well.

The fourth Saturday is dedicated to Plinker Plus matches featuring all .22 caliber rifle shooting from the Ruger 10/22 type rifle all the way up custom builds.

If you like your Pew Pew like we do there are many fun and safe ways to compete and grow in your sport. Please check them out for more details at TexarkanaGunClub.com and on Facebook.

TGC does not have trap shooting facilities at this time but our friends down the road at the Maud Gun Club do. Check them out on Facebook.

Shoot often, be safe and we'll see you on the range.
