Bowie County, Texas One of the Approved 67 for Hurricane Beryl Assistance
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday, July 10, 2024, that President Biden approved federal disaster assistance for 67 counties across the state impacted by Hurricane Beryl, including Bowie and Cass Counties. This comes after Texas requested a Major Disaster Declaration Tuesday.
"As federal, state, and local officials continue to assess damages in impacted communities, Texas is working around the clock to respond and help Texans recover from Hurricane Beryl," said Governor Abbott. "This approval is a critical step forward in our efforts to provide assistance to impacted Texans across the state. Our team is also in regular contact with electrical providers to ensure power is quickly restored to all Texans."
Counties Included in the Federal Disaster Declaration:
Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Calhoun, Cameron, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Colorado, Dewitt, Fayette, Fort Bend, Freestone, Galveston, Goliad, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Hidalgo, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Marion, Matagorda, Milam, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola, Polk, Refugio, Robertson, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Victoria, Walker, Waller, Washington, Webb, Wharton, and Willacy.
Additional counties may be added as damage assessments are completed. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will also offer its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program statewide at the request of Texas.
Key Points of the Disaster Declaration:
- Reimbursement: Covers up to 75% of costs for debris removal and emergency protective measures.
- State Response: Texas is deploying emergency resources, including personnel, generators, tarps, fuel, meals, water, and ice to affected areas.
- Cooling Centers: A map of cooling centers can be found at TDEM Cooling Centers.
- Medical Support: Texas has deployed 25 additional ambulances and a 250-bed medical shelter to the Houston area to support local EMS and hospitals.
- Reporting Damage: Texans with property damage are urged to report it using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) survey at damage.tdem.texas.gov. This survey helps emergency management officials identify damage and immediate resource needs. Note that reporting damage via iSTAT does not replace reporting to your insurance company and does not guarantee disaster relief assistance.
