Three Texas Cities – Some of The Worst Places For A Picnic
Having grown up and worked in the Houston area for many years, I can vouch for some of these findings, but I'm scratching my head on some others. The three Texas cities listed below have come up in a survey of the best and worst cities to have a picnic, and they were not on the "best" side of the ledger if you know what I mean. Bear with me here.
Top Of The List:
First, let's take a quick gander at the top of this 500-cities list.
5. Tucson, AZ
4. Seattle, WA
3. Honolulu, HI
2. Irvine, CA
1. Thousand Oaks, CA
Out of those five, I've only been to one... so I can neither confirm nor deny the research findings here.
National Eat Outside Day is coming up this Saturday, August 31 and a website by the name of Lawnstarter.com came out with this research piece about the best and worst places in the US to grab a bite outside. The research was done on four very basic considerations:
- Parks Accessibility
- Local Average Climate
- Laws and Regs
- Safety
Being a resident of Texarkana puts me in a great place to hit not just one but four terrific states to do day trips, including picnics. We call it the Ark-La-Tex locally but it includes Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and even Oklahoma. By the way, how come we don't call it the Ark-La-Ho-Tex? Maybe I just answered my own question... never mind.
Anyway, I can hereby state with all the passion that God gave me there are some terrific places to go on a picnic in all four of those states, including right here in Texarkana. But, when you lay out the defining stats of this report, most of those are day trips, not within walking distance, so with that, let's see the bottom of that report, the worst cities in the United States in which to have a picnic, and three right here in the Great State of Texas.
Ta-Da!
10. Farmington Hills, MI
9. Conroe, TX
8. Baytown, TX
7. Hoover, AL
6. South Fulton, GA
5. Southfield, MI
4. Troy, MI
3. Beaumont, TX
2. Jackson, MS
1. Fayetteville, NC
Is this important information? Ummm No. Will it matter in the grand scheme of things? Nope. Is it interesting? Kinda.
I'm going to eat my lunch now, inside where it's cool and comfortable, even in August. Living my best life right here in the Ark-La-Ho-Tex baby! (That's still not working is it?)
