How long has it been since you've seen a bridge blow up? For me, it's been a while. After watching the video, the first thing I thought was, "Hey, it blowed-up real good!" And that it did; we're talking about the old bridge on Texas Highway 8 over the western end of Lake Wright Patman near Texarkana, Texas. The old low bridge, which connects Maud to Douglasville, was scheduled to go boom on Thursday but ended up getting delayed until Friday, February 28, 2025.

The new bridge, which is at a higher elevation, has been in use now for several months; during that time, the old low bridge was being prepped for demolition.

Here is a Google Street View image of the new bridge view on Hwy 8, looking toward the South.

I must admit the video is pretty spectacular. TxDOT did a fantastic job with the production with two views; the first is a view from the eastern side of the bridge, and the second is from the west.

Turn up your speakers a bit unless you're at work, you don't want to get in trouble for watching old bridges blow up, do you? If you listen carefully, you can hear the warning horn a few seconds before "the boom".

A boom, complete with debris splashes all around the camera and a terrific slow boom-sound decay. Very nice.

Thanks for providing the video TxDOT, a little destructive fun for our viewing pleasure.
