TxDOT Issues Holiday Warning: Don’t Let One Drink Ruin Your New Year
It's Christmas time and with the holiday season, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is reminding motorists to make safe, responsible choices behind the wheel, especially when alcohol is involved. Law Enforcement is amped up this season to make sure we all stay safe.
Holiday gatherings mean more drivers are on the road, and unfortunately, more impaired driving. Across Texas, the month of December consistently sees the highest number of crashes caused by drunk drivers. Texas police and troopers will be watching for impaired drivers and they will pull you over if they suspect you are impaired.

Last year, during the holiday season alone, more than 2,000 crashes statewide were linked to drunk driving. According to TxDOT, these crashes were entirely preventable with a sober ride home. How very, very sad.
Local Impact in the Atlanta District
The impact was felt all across the state and way too close to home. TxDOT’s Atlanta District recorded 39 alcohol-related DUI crashes during the 2024 holiday period. Those crashes resulted in one fatality and five serious injuries. The Atlanta District covers Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus, and Upshur counties.
