Dr. Otis Williams & The Temptations Plaque Dedication and Celebration
Historic Downtown Texarkana will honor Dr. Otis Williams, a founding member of The Temptations, with a special plaque dedication ceremony on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at noon. The event will also celebrate Dr. Williams' 83rd birthday.
The dedication will take place at the Otis Williams & The Temptations mural, located at 3rd St. and Scott Joplin Way. Carol Collins-Miles will serve as the event’s hostess, with Rev. Dr. James Anthony Morris offering a prayer. Linda Henderson, a family member, will deliver remarks, accompanied by Michael Rhodes on piano.
Local mayors Bob Bruggeman (Texas) and Allen Brown (Arkansas) will participate in the plaque unveiling, recognizing Williams' contributions to music and culture.
A balloon release will conclude the event.
The current members of The Temptations, including Otis "Oak" Williams, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Anthony "Tony" Grant, and Jawan M. Jackson, are expected to return to Texarkana for a concert in February 2025 at the Perot Theatre, following their attendance at the mural’s ribbon-cutting in January 2024.
