We’re Giving Away Girl Scout Cookies to Help Celebrate 100 Years of Cookie-Selling

It's almost that time of year again. Time for some delicious Girl Scout cookies that you can only get once a year.

Everyone has a special place in their heart for Girl Scout Cookies. Not only because they’re delicious, but because purchasing Girl Scout Cookies helps young girls fulfill their dreams, follow their passions, and change the world.

In observance of their 100th anniversary of cookie-selling, we are giving our audience a chance to win seven boxes of Girl Scout cookies -- before they even go on sale.

Samoas is the most popular cookie in the Girl Scouts Diamonds region and continues to be my personal favorite. Other classics include Thin Mints, Trefoils,Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Savannah Smiles and the gluten-free Toffee-tastic.

The Thin Mint, however, has kept its spot as the top seller in the nation. To commemorate this banner year for the organization, the highly-anticipated Girl Scout S’mores cookie, including crunchy graham sandwich cookies with chocolate and marshmallowy filling, will now be available.

Girl Scout History

A century ago, girls started participating in what would evolve into the largest entrepreneurial training program for girls in the world: the Girl Scout Cookie Program, through which girls learn the essential skills they need to become effective leaders, manage finances, and gain self-sufficiency and confidence in handling money.

Girl Scout Cookies not only help Girl Scouts earn money for fun, educational activities and community projects, but also play a huge role in transforming girls into G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders) as they learn essential life skills that will stay with them forever. The first known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts occurred in 1917, when the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Okla., baked cookies and sold them in its high school cafeteria as a service project.

As the Girl Scout Cookie Program developed and evolved, it became a vehicle for teaching five essential skills—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.

Starting January 21, you can order your favorite flavors from a Girl Scout near you or you could win some free cookies HERE by entering our contest. Cookie delivery will begin at the end of February and you should also keep an eye out for booth sales in March. Also, you can use the "Cookie Locator app" for iPhones and Androids to find a booth sale near you.

Today, nearly 1 million Girl Scouts participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, generating nearly $800 million in cookie sales during the average season. All of the net revenue raised through the Girl Scout Cookie Program —100 percent of it — stays with the local council and troops.
