Suggestion For Delicious Food in Mt Pleasant, Texas – Worth The Drive
A few weeks ago I went on a Saturday road trip to Mt Pleasant, Texas to visit the Mid America Flight Museum for my "Just Plane Nuts" series and get some pictures of the amazing, still-flying, warbirds they have in their collection. Well after a few hours of climbing in and around, and taking pictures of old airplanes and helicopters, I had worked up a pretty good appetite, it was definitely time for some lunch.
I set out for the downtown area because I have never been to that part of Mt Pleasant before, so, let's see what they have. Nice little downtown square, by the way, with lots of shops and a few restaurants to choose from, which is what I was searching for.
This one had the street appeal for me, Laura's Cheesecake & Cafe... they had me at cheesecake. I know, I know, I've been on a very restrictive diet all year, still am, but that doesn't mean I can't have a piece of cheesecake every now and then.
Turned out to be a very good choice, and not just for the cheesecake, more on that in a minute. Laura's is a soup, salad, wrap, sandwich, and dessert kind of place. After much deliberation, I ordered the menu item called the PREACHER, which is smoked turkey, swiss cheese, ancho sauce, chipotle mayo, lettuce, and tomato served on a ciabatta bun. No tomato for me thanks, but the sandwich was delicious, loved the ciabatta bun.
Since this was my first time there I can't speak for everything on the menu obviously, but I can tell you this, what I had was really good.
Now, let's talk cheesecake... it's in the name, it's on the sign, it better be good, right? Trust me, it was. Suzanne, the owner, wanted me to try a new cheesecake flavor they were thinking about including in their Fall online lineup for the Holidays, it's called White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake... it was amazing.
I was semi-good, which only means I could have been a lot worse, I only had two bites and took the rest home to my wife. I think I had two more bites later that night, shhhhhhhh, don't tell anybody.
The owner also told me a little-known fact, their cheesecakes are now available at Ironwood Grill here in Texarkana as well. Sweet!
If you're planning a drive to, or through, Mt Pleasant and you need to stop for some good food, head downtown and give Laura's Cheesecake & Cafe a shot, I think they are... worth the drive.
