National Ice Cream Month – Texarkana Loves Ice Cream
It's that time a year again when, "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream." Nothing is more refreshing than some cold ice cream on a long hot summer day. July happens to be 'National Ice Cream Month' so that means lots of ice cream.
There is just something special about ice cream that makes a person smile. Perhaps it conjures up memories of your childhood or you just love the sweetness of your favorite flavor. Back in the day, when I was growing up ice cream flavors were limited, nowadays the flavors, combinations, and types of ice cream are endless it seems.
I guess my love for ice cream began when I was a young boy, my dad worked at an ice cream plant where they made the ice cream and delivered it all over the area. On occasion my dad would take me to work and let me stir the ice cream in a huge vat that looked like a mixing bowl. If you grew up in Texarkana you may remember, Southern Belle Ice Cream. My favorite flavor during that time was butter pecan and they made an almond bar that was out of this world. In fact, I have never found an almond bar that taste anything like the one they made.
Of, course, when your dad worked at an Ice Cream plant that meant a lot of free ice cream. Just about every special occasion we celebrated as a family, we had lots of ice cream for everyone to enjoy. I'm not complaining though, it has given me some great memories of spending time with my dad for the rest of my life.
So it's only fitting that I posed the question on my Facebook page, What is your favorite flavor and how do you prefer your ice cream? Here's what many fo you said.
Finally, a little something special for celebrating the Fourth of July.
